About McAlyn

Hi! I'm McAlyn. Among other things (Harry Potter enthusiast included), I am an up-and-coming singer and actor. I have been in love with performing since I was seven  years old, and when I was thirteen, it hit me: I have to do this for the rest of my life. Since then, I've upped my game. I am classically trained in the Bel Canto style, I know basic ballet, tap, and jazz, and I am trained in various forms of acting, including long-form and short-form improvisation, character development, and basic stage combat (which still terrifies me). I am extremely lucky I have realized my dream, and I am going for it.

"Sitting in the Closet
Listening to Show Tunes"

If I were to entitle a book about my life so far, this would be it. First of all, I am a show tunes fanatic. It is my goal to know every single show tune. Ever. I am constantly listening to new musicals over and over until I feel I am a qualified expert. Now the closet part is easily explained: I have set up my own office in my parents' walk-in closet. It's the perfect space, and nobody interrupts my thought processes! I was actually asked what I would title a book about my life on a college application, and I was very excited, because I've had this title floating around in my brain for a year, and I finally had an excuse to use it!

My Favorites

I am a woman of many favorites. As for favorite books... Harry Potter has its own level of brilliance. I love, and always will love, the classic tale of The Boy Who Lived. Aside from Harry Potter, I love "Jane Eyre",
"The Reason I Jump" and "To Kill a Mockingbird". My favorite musicals
are "Next to Normal", "A Chorus Line", " Les Misérables".... And "A Very Potter Musical". My favorite music is obviously show tunes, but I am
also a huge fan of The Beatles, Barenaked Ladies, Simon & Garfunkel, The Cat Empire, Enter the Haggis/Jubilee Riots, The Black Keys, Pentatonix, and Hozier. The list goes on, because I like most music. Some other miscellaneous loves of mine include: Orca whales, Gilmore Girls, The West Wing (the show...though I suppose I like the actual west wing as well), tea, tea, tea, New York City, making birthday cards, Audrey Hepburn, actual printed photographs,  and Denver!
